First Day of School Dread

Erin: We’re not talking about the kids dreading it, WE are dreading it.

Ellen: Okay, stop rolling your eyes. We can’t be the only ones that loathe the start of school.

Erin: It means the end of easy, breezy days…

Ellen: And the revving up of schedules and carpools.

Erin: Ellen and I are already skidding into the abyss because of our high schoolers. Band and sports have already started.

Ellen: Which means some serious storm clouds are threatening our Fun Parade. We are tugging on our galoshes, preparing for the storm to hit when they all go back.

Erin: So enjoy our Brite as we plead our case that the first day of school is not all champagne and freedom.

Love it!!! Especially the part about having to wake the kid that typically does not sleep late. So true. My kids just finished camp yesterday and I am looking forward to 4 weeks of being more relaxed. I am happy to not have to deal with rushed breakfasts and slathering on sunscreen in a huge hurry every morning, and the kids are happy about it, too. However, talk to me again in about a week. Or maybe even 3 days. I have a feeling I will be looking forward to the start of school by then!

Oh I so hear you! The highschoolers…mine is going to be a junior which is the stressful year leading up to the stressful college applications. I’m a newbie so I’m scared! Good luck with your re-entries!

What is up with all of those forms?!!!! Isn’t there some way to do all of that electronically? Paper makes me anxious and I always forget at least one because it gets shoved at the bottom of the giant stack of mail on the counter. But, even though it will be painful getting back into the schedule, I am craving it this year. It seems as they get older, they function better with structure (think it has to do with the rapid development of the adolescent brain?) Good luck and here’s to a great year! xo
