Got your shopping done? Neither do we. And if you’re jumping up and down raising your hand saying, “Yes, me, me, me!!” we have some duct tape we would like to introduce you to, in the nicest way possible, of course.
And speaking of being nice, we have some awesome gift suggestions for that teenage girl in your life. If we could only find the time to shop from our own gift guide, we’d be set.
In the meantime, won’t you join us for some Finding the Funny because laughter is the greatest gift of all, right? It’s just a bugger to wrap.
We know our kids are some of the luckiest, most blessed kids on the planet. Pretty much everything about being a kid in one of our families rocks. However, we do often hear mutterings and suffer eye rolls about the “stupid blog.” Whatever.
October is here and as I head toward the winter doldrums, I gotta love my Sisters who try to cheer me up with little emailed love letters like this:
THIS Ellen (Williams) wishes she was as cool (and rich) as THAT Ellen (DeGeneres). But to fully appreciate the irony and funny, you really need to see THIS Ellen dance. If only there was a way . . .
Oh that’s right, I posted a video awhile back as part of House TalkN’s Bloggers Dance for all of the internet to see. Erin makes a guest appearance, but she looks as stiff as a board. See if you agree.
So maybe my moves aren’t what would be called “the best”, but the locales were pretty faboo, right? Well, if that didn’t tickle your funny bone, you’re in luck because it’s also time for Finding the Funny. Link up what you got or just peruse through and do some reading. If you missed last month’s edition (and my swimming pool reveal) here were the most clicked posts:
We are reluctantly leaving summer behind with our feet dragging. It just seems so unfair that the weather is so gorgeous, but our schedules are back to their school year soul crushing ways. And Ellen’s pool is finally finished! Remember when we wrote about her Ghetto Chic Swimming Pool Design?
Well, just look at it now! It is ghetto no more!
But alas, the days of enjoying it are coming to an end. At least Finding the Funny is back to bring us some laughs and entertainment. Maybe we can fit in just a few more cannonballs in the mean time.
Being sensible is kind of our schtick. It’s in our name for crying out loud. But every once in a while I wonder about myself.
I began the other day to clean out the basement. Sensible, right? My youngest is 12 years old and we still had moldy Play-Doh sets and ancient preschool supplies taking up valuable real estate on our shelves. A truly sensible woman probably would have gotten to it sooner, but as I delved deeper, I had bigger things to worry about than my sensibility. I unearthed something that made me question my sanity:
Do you see the size of this bag!?!
Who in their right mind would buy a bag of glitter this big? That is a quart of iridescent disaster. I have NO recollection of purchasing it. Do you know the amount of destruction a toddler could wreck if she got her grimy mitts on this? Of course you do and the answer is epic. An epic amount of destruction. They don’t call glitter the herpes of craft supplies for nothing. My only redemption is that the bag was never opened. I may have been crazy enough to buy it, but thankfully I came to my senses before I used it. This little beauty is on its way to Goodwill. Consider it my gift to society. -Ellen
To further redeem our sensible name, we have some crafty-craft to giveaway with no vacuuming required or necessary. Actually, no work on your part is required whatsoever to make the fabulous happen.

Welcome to April’s Finding the Funny! Before we start sharing our funny posts, we have a (huge) giveaway!
My Parenting Victory (and a HUGE giveaway)!
My small parenting victory really started out as more of a personal quest: a quest for the perfect green smoothie. I tried so many versions, but let’s just say I had to force them down until I tweaked a recipe to use Chobani yogurt. It is delicious and, well, perfect. Bonus? This bad boy contains 6 cups of spinach!
I was so enthralled with the wonder of this smoothie that I served it to my kids. While my 14 year old thought it was pretty good, my 12 year old was repulsed and she pouted through pursed lips, “Greek yogurt is disgusting!” Oh no! In my hubris, I had flown too close to the sun! Now she wouldn’t eat Greek yogurt! Chobani is so much better than “normal” yogurt because of its higher protein content, lower sugar, and live active probiotic cultures. I had turned her against the perfect food! But in swooped Chobani Champions tubes to save the day!
They are all delicious!
Apparently, it is all in the presentation. Glass of green liquid: bad. Kicky, fun tubes: good. At least for my tween, that is. For me, it’s all good. I get the green smoothies AND the tubes.
-Ellen

We are co-hosting that wonderful monthly link-up, Finding the Funny, with a whole slew of talented bloggers. To put it simply, we are pleased as a couple of leprechauns riding unicorns towards a rainbow leading to a pot of gold and Sour Patch Kids. Maybe we need to work on simple.

Sometimes it’s embarrassing to love something, but the heart wants what the heart wants and my heart wants . . .
Sour Patch Kids
This is not just a passing fancy. I have had dreams about them. One year, I gave them up for Lent and started obsessing about them hard core. I was one step away from Taylor Swift-ing a lost love ballad to them. The low point? I wish.
After nearly forty years of perfect dental hygiene, I thought they were responsible for my first cavity. Luckily, it was not the dire situation I had feared, but I knew I was in deep at that point. So deep in fact that I have been known to refer to them as the ultimate new hipster crack. Once, when we read about a big drug bust in Baltimore, I actually told Steve they were probably bringing drugs into the city through the Sour Patch Kids.
It’s a love song gone all wrong, but I just can’t walk away. So I will do what all people head over heels do: I’ll pen a little poem to them. Just in time for Valentine’s Day. So here, in 57 words . . .
My Ode to The Kids of the Patch that is Sour
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee when thy flavor puckers my lips and furrows my brow.
I love thee freely, as my hand scoops thee from thy garish bag.
I love thee purely, as only an addict can.
And I shall but love thee better after the bag is refilled.
