Confetti Canons, Bratz dolls, and bikinis, oh my! This is not a case of Spring Break gone wrong, but one of a simple question launching a great discussion. Last week, Spring looked like it was actually thinking about showing up this year so we asked a simple question on our Facebook page.
And oh the response we got! It was great, and, better yet, it prompted a discussion not just on our page but between the two of us too.
In this week’s podcast, we take on the burning question of the bikinis but also talk about respectful parenting, moms judging other moms, our confetti canon culture, and arbitrary battle lines. Erin shares a major misstep along the way and a story of one of her friends who got it just right. There’s a lot of good stuff in this one.

I love your popcasts except I can’t jump in and join the fun! Great topic. I can’t wait till Big Love to discuss as I have a totally different point of view…shocked I’m sure!! Keep up the great entertaining work!!
We’d love to hear you view, Mary! It certainly does not have to be in line with either of our opinions. And when we get better at not talking over top of each other, you can be our first guest! xoxo Ellen
Yes, I do think I am willing to die on the bikini sword. But I appreciate the sentiment behind the soundbite and will keep it in mind on the other things.
And yes, there is a huge difference between a modest one piece and a bikini. You kind of lost me on that point.
Ah, the problems with podcasting: sometimes points do not get explained well. Since my girls’ bikinis are not that skimpy–for example ruffles on top, bandeau style, full coverage bottoms–they are just as covering as some skimpy one-pieces. My thought was that having a micro-thin layer of Lycra covering their stomachs really didn’t make that much difference. Of course, if you are talking about one-piece suits with boy shorts or skirts and long sleeved sun protection, then there is a difference.
My daughters know that if there is any “side boob” or even worse, “under boob” showing, they might as well not come out of the dressing room and just place that suit on the discard pile. 🙂 -Ellen
